Welcome to HMS!

This year at Hilmar Middle School, we are excited to continue the implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, or PBIS.  PBIS helps strengthen school climate and safety, while improving a wide range of academic and behavioral outcomes.

A key part of PBIS is the adoption of a unified set of school-wide behavior expectations, what we call our Core Values.  To promote these we like to say, “We A.R.E. Hornets!”  A.R.E. stands for Accountable, Respectful and Empathetic.  When you visit our campus, you will see these core values and the expectations that go along with them posted throughout the school.  Our students have been learning and reviewing them in all of the various school settings.  The goal of PBIS is to teach correct procedures and foster and recognize positive behaviors. We also have a clear system planned out to help redirect and reteach when the behaviors are not followed.  Through the implementation of PBIS, we are ensuring that ALL students have equal access to a quality and appropriate education

This year, we also are continuing to use the app ParentSquare to help facilitate parent communication.  Many of you may have already received texts, emails, or app notifications from us through ParentSquare.  If you are not receiving these notifications, please contact the school office so that we can help you get set up.  ParentSquare is available through iTunes and Google Play… but it’s easier if you contact us and we’ll send you a special invitation to quickly and easily get you connected to our customized app.

Our new WEB team of students is also working hard to further strengthen relationships among students at HMS.  WEB stands for Where Everyone Belongs.  It is led by a team of eighth-grade students who support younger students by fostering active participation in school activities and helping connect them with peers on campus.  WEB is a middle-school version of the highly successful Link Crew found at many local high schools including our very own Hilmar High School.  WEB is coordinated by Mr. Labrouche and Mrs. Rosa.  Please feel free to contact them for additional information on this exciting student program.

All of us at HMS are looking forward to a great year.  Please contact us if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
